A LITTLE FRIVOLITY
When I write my Five Things Friday posts I usually pick something I've been thinking about - some are even a little bit deep. Today's is much more frivolous - I've just picked five little things that have added a smile to my life lately.1. TV
I love finding a decent TV show - it's been a while! I started watching "This Is Us" on catch up TV the other week and loved it from the moment the whole thing came together at the end of Episode 1. I love that it's not reality TV, I love that it has a good vibe to it, I love that it won't give me nightmares, and I love that it's a series and not a one off.
2. MENTORING
I love the new little boy I'm mentoring this year at our local primary school. He just turned six and is so excited to see me arrive for our one hour together each week. Now I just need to find interesting things for us to do each visit - a fun challenge.
3. LIBRARIES
I love holding a book in my hand and that I get to borrow brand new books from the library for free. I just finished "Echoes in Death" by JD Robb - brand spanking new and the frugalista in me enjoyed the fact that I could read it and then it goes on to the next person, and the next, ad infinitum.
4. FIGS
I love that my niece has just moved into a house bordering an old fig tree - nothing beats a nectarine or a plum - except a ripe and juicy fig. She's managed to pick me a few here and there that the birds haven't eaten - bliss!
5. THE A TO Z CHALLENGE
I love that I'm about to tackle the 2017 A to Z Challenge - my second year doing it. I swore not to do it again because it was such a time sucker, but I'm all fired up again and ready to get those 26 posts written for April - I hope you'll follow along with my series.

I can't seem to watch that show without crying. Always enjoy your blog, thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a lovely surprise to find a show I liked Kathleen. They all seem to be about crime or 'reality TV' neither of which really interest me.
DeleteThat TV show has everyone talking Leanne so I must see what all the fuss is about. I love figs too! Good luck with the challenge I'm sure your posts will be well received as always. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYou will definitely have to watch it on catch up TV Sue - it's just a lovely show and the actors really do it justice (Mandy Moore is just gorgeous).
DeleteLove This is Us-it's one of mY favorite shows! Also love figs. So sweet that you mentor a little boy. Also, I need to get back to reading books!
ReplyDeleteEstelle
Yes you definitely need to find a good book series Estelle - once you discover one it's hard to put them down. I'm in the middle of Anne of Green Gables - I'd never read it in its entirity and I'm loving it.
DeleteOooh, I haven't heard of that TV show - I'm going to check it out! I also LOVE the library since I did a huge declutter of my library. I'm on a David Bach financial reading kick lately - getting our financial house "in order." I've also never heard of the A-Z blogging so I'll have to check that out!
ReplyDeleteYou'll definitely have to check out "This Is Us" Angela - it is surprisingly engaging. I just went back and put a link in the A-Z Challenge comment so people could check it out if they want to leap into it too.
DeleteGood luck with the A to Z, Leanne. 'This is Us' sounds like a fab show. Going to see if I can catch it on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteThanks Corinne - it's such a big thing to take on again but I've already met so many new people through the reveal posts and can't wait to launch off again!
DeleteI have to watch "This is Us." Everyone says its great. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteYou would love it Laurie - the very end of the first episode grabs you and then you're in for the rest of the ride!
DeleteI haven't had the guts to try "This is Us" yet. I cry at commercials for car insurance... Also, I'm going to check out that A to Z blog stuff -- sounds like a challenge!
ReplyDeleteIf you cry at insurance ads you'll definitely shed a tear or two over This Is Us Deb. And it's not too late to leap into the A to Z - as long as you keep your posts short you should have a blast (26 long posts in one month is exhausting!)
DeleteI am very excited about the A to Z and look forward to your posts. I have half of my done and "scheduled" to publish. This is my 3rd year doing it and I want to spend my time reading other people's posts. I like your 5 Little Things! I may use this for a prompt after April. Happy Blogging!
ReplyDeleteI've done about half of mine too Susan - it's a big undertaking, but so much fun meeting new bloggers. You are welcome to try a few "5 Things" posts in May - they are always fun (but seem to take longer than I expect every time!)
DeleteI love libraries too. If it weren't for the library (and op shops) we'd be broke, as I read 2-3 books each week!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same Janet- nothing beats a great book - except a free great book!
DeleteHubby and I like to watch TV together, whether it's a favourite series or sports like hockey and soccer. Those reality shows are terrible, except for the talent competitions which we're into. Haven't seen "This is Us", but I might check it out if it gets to Netflix. Fresh figs are delicious! Add some parmigiano, crusty bread and a dry Pinot Grigio and you have a meal. ☺ The A to Z Challenge is definitely addictive and lives up to its name. This will be year four for me. Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteHi Deb - looking forward to sharing the A to Z with you again this year, especially seeing you're a fellow fig lover :)
DeleteHi Jeanne! I've heard so many good things about that show! TV is one of my favorite things to do while surfing the web, cleaning, playing with my pups, oh heck, I'm addicted! ;) I bet you mentoring that young boy is very fulfilling for you. I can imagine when he smiles because he achieved something, that gives you a major warm fuzzy. :) Thanks for sharing your 5 things. I hope you're enjoying your weekend!
ReplyDeleteBren @ A Splash of Cray
Hi Bren - you'll definitely have to catch up with "This Is Us" it's a lovely show. And yes, I think my little mentor boy just loves being the centre of someone's attention of a while.
DeleteHow lovely that you mentor children. Best wishes on the challenge! I'm doing music again this year, probably a cheat. But the theme is altered a little, featuring music new to me rather than music I owned beforehand.
ReplyDeleteHi Darla - I hope I find you in amongst those thousands of A to Z Challenge participants. Music is always a fun topic because there's so much to cover.
DeleteHi Leanne thanks for linking up and sharing with us at #OvertheMoon. I've pinned and shared and can't wait for your A-Z Challenge posts.
ReplyDeleteAlways lovely to link up Sue and I'm glad you're going to be following along with my A to Z posts!
DeleteOh I just Love the library! And JD Robb's books.
ReplyDeleteA fellow JD Robb lover - I think we're kindred spirits (to quote my friend, Anne of Green Gables!)
DeleteI haven't seen the show, I don't go to the library for myself (I take the grandbabies), mentoring sounds rewarding (kinda like I do with the grandbabies), I haven't tasted figs except in Fig Newtons (and they're tasty), and last of all I wish you well on the A-Z Challenge :) Thanks Leanne for sharing this post at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty. I shared it on social media.
ReplyDeleteDee I am amazed that you haven't tried most of these - I think you need to add them to your to-do list.... especially figs!
DeleteHi, Leanne - I don't think that your above 'love list' is frivolous at all. I look forward to following your 'A - Z Challenge'.
