GUEST POST - SUE FROM OVER THE MOON

Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond is my guest on the blog today - discussing her link party

SUE LONCARIC

The first guest in my series of great bloggers who host Link Parties is Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond. Sue and I are great blogging buddies - we're both Aussies and (although we live on opposite sides of the country) we just "get" each other and have very similar stories to tell of our blogging journey.

Sue co-hosts a few parties, but the one she was involved with from the very beginning is Over The Moon, and I never miss linking up on a Monday with Sue and her friends. (And just as a little hint of what is to come.... Sue and I are planning on running a Link Party of our own for Midlifers next year - stay tuned for more info in January - we're excited!)

So without further ado, here is Sue and her answers to my questions about her blog and her #OTM Link Party.

SUE'S QUESTIONS:

WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG?

The name of my blog is Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond.  I recently added the ‘Beyond’ because I turned 60 in August and I have no intention slowing down and am planning to be ‘Sizzling’ into the future!

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU.

I’m 60, retired and I live in Brisbane, Australia.  I’m a Wife to Mike, Mum to Rachel & Nathan, Nan to Ethan and Nanna Sue to my husband’s grandchildren – Lexie, Harry and Camden.  I love to keep fit and healthy and enjoy working out and running with my friends.  We call ourselves the Saturday Sisters and run each Saturday.  I enjoy travelling and have just returned from 5 weeks discovering Spain and visiting my husband’s cousins in Italy.  Spending time each week with my gorgeous grandson Ethan who I just adore.  keeps me grounded and helps me to stop and enjoy the moment.  I also enjoy making special birthday cakes for all the grandchildren.

WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT?

My tag line to my blog is ‘Encouraging Women over 50 to be fit, fabulous, healthier and happier.’  Turning 50 was a great time in my life and now at 60 life is even better.  I want to inspire and encourage women to be the best version of themselves. I want to help them realise that just because we have reached a certain age doesn’t mean we give up on life.  In fact, this is the perfect time of life – you now have time to actually concentrate on yourself and what you want to do in life.

WHAT IS A BLOGGING TIP YOU CAN PASS ON?

Quality not quantity and build relationships would be my two tips. Don’t put pressure on yourself especially if blogging is a hobby. I know I say that, but I don’t always follow my own advice.  This year I’ve increased the amount of content and found that the blog was taking over my life – which is not necessarily a good thing.  Remember to keep it all in perspective.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?

Building relationships and friendships with others.  My best blogging buddy is Leanne and I’m honoured to be writing for her today.  Leanne and I have formed a bond even though we live on opposite sides of Australia.  We are there for each other to discuss, vent or celebrate our blogging.  I’ve met some wonderful women and the best thing is we encourage each other and I learned so much from them.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR LINK PARTY?

Over the Moon is a link party I co-host.  I publish every Monday morning at 8am AEST and it runs until Thursday.  You can even sign up to get a reminder if you want to link up.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START A LINK PARTY?

When I first started blogging I had no idea what a link party was.  Then Marilyn from Marilyn’s Treats asked if I would be interested in joining the team.  That was when I learnt what a link party was and it was a great way to promote my work and also read other blogs as well.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT HOSTING A LINK PARTY?

Trying to keep up the commenting and sharing.  Our time is precious but I try to make an effort as people have taken the time to link up their work so as a host especially, I feel I should be connecting.  My pet peeve is when people just ‘link and run’.  This means they link up their post but don’t interact with anyone.  If we all just shared and commented on one or two posts it doesn’t take long and helps other bloggers increase awareness of their blog.  It is also a way to form relationships.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING?

I love seeing the number of people who link up and the variety of posts.  It is also great to see the same people linking up each week.  We become like a family and the support from these bloggers is appreciated so much.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?

Blogging is a roller coaster ride – some weeks you are up, other weeks you are wondering why you are actually doing it. Joining a link party helps to promote your blog and build friendships which is a wonderful by-product.

  11. Sue is an inspiration and I love reading her motivational blogs. I can identify with blogging taking over your life, so this year I've pulled back to a certain extent because I found myself too absorbed. It is refreshing to know that we are all on the same page. #TeamLovinLife

  12. Oh thanks for this Leanne & Sue. There was a lot about Sue I hadn't known. And I enjoyed the insights re blogging. It can (and mostly) does offer a wonderful sense of community and I tend to find my online and blogging friends to be more kindred - in many ways - than friends I'm met in more recent years. #teamlovinlife
